ENVIRONMENT WEEK
An attempt to save the mother nature
The Initiative
Environmental Awareness Program: (on occasion of World Environment Day)

"Lessons taught at a young age have a lasting impression on one's mind but it's never too late to begin working for a good cause." With this thought in mind, we have been religiously celebrating Environment Week on the occasion of "World Environment Day" for the past 5 years in the first week of June.

This year (2016) we celebrated the Environment from 2nd June to 6th June at all of our India locations (Hinjwadi, Mahape, Noida & Bangalore) with great enthusiasm and vigor. Various events were organized to create an awareness about environmental related issues and to demonstrate that we at KPIT, 'Care for Nature'. Following are some of the initiatives that were organized.

Environment day is celebrated to spread global awareness about environmental issues amongst our employees and to encourage their attention and action towards it. A number of unique initiatives are organized at the above mentioned locations that receive an extremely encouraging response from the employees.

The initiative in Pune
June 2015

Best From Waste Exhibition
As a part of the Environment week activities, we invite our employees to unleash their creativity by making useful products using non-recyclable/waste products and exhibit them in our Best from Waste exhibition

Greenathon – Walk for Zero Garbage  
As we observe the huge issue of garbage in our cities, KPIT organised a Greenathon, a run for the environment, to create and spread awareness at Pune.

Tree Plantation Drives  
KPIT believes in conserving nature. Saving and planting trees is an important factor in nature conservation. As a part of this belief, KPIT conducted tree plantation drives at Pune in nearby government schools.

June 2014

KPIT Pune organized a painting exhibition made by the employees & their families. "Best from Waste" was the most talked about event of the Environment Week, where the employees displayed their creativity with enthusiasm.

June 2013

The following activities were conducted during the environment week (3rd to 7thJune 2013 ) at our Pune campus.

Documentary Screening
A Documentary by 'Chintan Environmental Research and Action Group', “60 Kilos“, an untold story of an active army!
A documentary on how biases and local practices have become a part of solid waste handling in India

Session on Artificial Nesting
The session was conducted by Mr. Sanjay Hejib (from KPIT) It was a very informative session of how artificial nests can be made & how sparrows that are almost on the verge of extinction can be saved & their count can be increased.

Extempore Competition
Participants were given a topic on the spot, and were asked to speak on it for 2 minutes. The topics given were based on the environment and issues surrounding it.

Online Quiz
A five-minute long online quiz was organized for all the employees of KPIT in Hinjawadi and Bangalore campuses.

Green Day
A day when all the employees flaunted the color green in support of environment the week.

June 2012

We observed Environment Week at KPIT Cummins from 4th to 8th June 2012. This time, we not only invited volunteers, we also asked them to come up with ideas for the activities to be executed during the week. We received 20+nominations for volunteers and more than 40 unique ideas, which were then shortlisted after discussions within the volunteers, FLM and Security teams. One major activity was planned for every day of the environment week. Some of the activities included Mock Parliament, “Call of life” - a documentary screening by Manasi Patil on environmental issues, Expert Sessions on environment- related topics viz. “Owls - Our Friends: Superstition and Science” by Dr. Satish Pandey and “A re-look at our transportation problems” by Mr. Ranjit Gadgil, and finally an award winning musical drama presentation by our in-house Theatre Group. We received encouraging response from the employees for all of these activities.

Also contests like “Painting and Poster making” and “How Green Are You?”, and activities like Environmental Issues Awareness, Tree plantation, Newspaper donation and Paper Bags Sale, which ran for the whole week, kept the momentum going and received a very good response and participation from the employees. We planted 30+ trees within our premises and sold over 200 paper bags.

Some of the activities, like partnering with Ela Foundation, tree plantation, documentary screening, expert sessions etc., are being seen as activities that maybe planned on an ongoing basis.

We wish to keep this momentum going, and are confident that we will continue to take KPIT CSR to greater heights.

The initiative in Noida
June 2014

KPIT Noida organized a photography/poster making event. “Junkyard Wars” was organized to encourage creativity among the employees and to promote the reuse of generated waste. A tree plantation event was also organized. Paper craft activity brought forth the creative side of the employees. Session on e-waste was organized to make the employees aware of the harmful effects of e-waste on the environment.

June 2013

The following activities were conducted during the environment week (3rd to 7th June 2013 ) at our Noida campus.

Save Paper drive
Almost 17 trees are used to make 1 ton of paper. We planned an activity to reduce the wastage of paper. All the waste papers or used papers were asked to be put in a box near the printer. These papers were later sent for recycling.

Skit to save Environment & Environment Quiz
A skit on the theme of 'environment' was performed by the employees of KPIT. An environment quiz was also conducted thereafter.

Water for Birds
The CSR team of Noida placed bowls filled with water for the birds on the terrace.

Stall by NGO
A stall was put up by NGO named Goonj for the sale of recycling products.

Information on environment
Mails related to environment were sent on everyday basis by the CSR Team.

June 2015

Greenathon – Walk for Zero Garbage
Further, to extend our awareness program we have organized Greenathon, a run for the environment at Bengaluru, to create awareness about conservation of nature, especially lakes.

Tree Plantation Drives
KPIT believes in conserving nature. Saving and planting trees is an important factor in nature conservation. As a part of this belief, KPIT will be conducting tree plantation drives in Bangalore at Ramakrishna Mission to spread this message.

Skits to Spread Environmental Awareness
To create and spread environmental awareness among our employees. CSR enthusiasts at Bangalore presented skits.

Organic Product Stall
This Environment week, we are taking a step towards a healthy lifestyle. We will be putting up an organic products stall which will not only sell healthy, organic products but also benefit farmers directly from the sales proceeds.

Quiz competition
A quiz competition will be organized on environmental themes to create and spread environmental awareness.

June 2014

"Switch-Off Light" was an attempt which involved collective participation of all the KPIT employees to show their commitment towards saving electricity and natural resources. Government schools were beautified by using eco-friendly paints that made the schools a better place to learn. "Clean Desk Campaign" was organized to create awareness among the employees about paper wastage and to encourage reuse and recycle. An "Eco- Friendly Stall" was organized by the physically-challenged individuals from the Samarthanam Trust to encourage the use of eco- friendly products.

Jute Bag Sale
Sale of Eco Friendly Bags was promoted to reduce usage of plastic. It was arranged by an NGO called Antarkriti.

Tree Plantation by RMZ
Saplings were planted in the RMZ Area.

Switching Off Lights
Lights were switched off for half an hour in all the floors of our Bangalore Office to save energy.

Online Quiz
A five-minute online Quiz was organized for all the employees.

The initiative in Mahape
June 2015

At Mahape, we are organizing a poster competition on environmental themes. A NGO Mela will be held to showcase various eco-friendly products. We also have a quiz competition lined up along with the Greenathon walk to create awareness on conservation of environment. To extend our initiative, we are also involving the future generation by inviting our employee’s family members to participate in the celebrations.

June 2014

The Environment Week kicked-off with a ‘Flash-Mob’ activity by the CSR Team. NGO fair was organized with the intention of promoting eco-friendly products. A documentary named 'Jal Khet' was also screened for employees to demonstrate the benefits of water harvesting. We also conducted a Paper Mache Workshop for employees, to encourage 'Reuse of Waste Paper'. On the occasion of the ‘World’s Environment Day’ Green Walk was organized to show that we care for our environment and it was followed by a street play by the CSR Team in Mahape Gaon, targeted at the localities. We concluded this eventful week with an informative session on 'Energy and Environment' and Environment Quiz.
A Vermi-culture pit was also inaugurated for dumping the segregated biodegradable waste from office cafeteria and premises, to form rich manure for plants in the vicinity.
